“Adult Truths” was forwarded to me, describing humorous ideas surrounding us in our daily lives. Here’s a sample: 1) “Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong.” 2) How the heck are supposed to fold a fitted sheet?” 3) “Was learning cursive really necessary?”4) Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5. I’m pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood”. And #6) “Bad decisions make good stories”.
Bad decisions DO make good stories but they also heap on a ton of guilt. We beat ourselves up playing the “if” game. “What if I had only do this”. “If only I had said that”. We lay awake at night tossing and turning wondering “if”….
Sister Mary Vodka’s Guilt Free Tip of the Week: When you do make a bad decision, instead of rerunning the whole mess in your mind, imagine that you are writing a blockbuster of a humorous story to send into Jay Leno’s segment, “People Doing Stupid Things”. Take you mind and energy away from the pangs of guilt, focusing on turning the whole painful scene, complete with the characters, into a humorous story. Be sure to include the setting, the timeline, and why this incredibly dumb mistake was funny. Try to see the humor in the lesson that you learned, marking it up as an opportunity for growth. Your self worth does NOT depend on what others think of you. And you might be a star!
