Following the rules has been drilled into me for so long that sometimes it’s difficult to “shake it off” and be “normal”! I was in the grocery store picking up a few items. Since I was in a hurry I looked in my basket to see if I “qualified” for the express lane of 10 items or less. Once again a guilt dilemma. Having 3 cans of soup led to a “rules” determination: did the three cans qualify as “one item” (since they are all soup) or did each can of soup count as an item? Would that be one item or three items? As per usual I opted for the “safer” three count moving away from the express line to find my place at the end of the longer regular line. I looked over at the express lane taking in the numerous grocery carts containing many more than the posted “rule of 10”. I wondered if these people in college majored in Math and couldn’t read or if they were English majors that couldn’t count. Whatever!!! I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and prayed: “Thank you, God, for this, another opportunity to learn patience and tolerance.” Happy Shopping!
