Does time really speed-up as we get older? My mom said it would! Do you remember how the two-week Christmas break from elementary school seemed like an eternity? Now two weeks speeds by faster than a speeding “bullet train” so that I can barely remember it.
Sharing my “time dilemma”, a friend of mine enlightened me by explaining that time is actually compressing. Our 24-hour day is really only 16 hours. Yes, I’m hurried.
I avoid television news, reporting on murders, robberies, and other travesties. Bringing this “bad news” into my visual mind turns my sunny mood into a downward spiral of disbelief.
I go to bed at night tossing and turning as I mull over Health Care Plans, the economy, the wars, the lost jobs, our savings account, Social Security, retirement funds, etc. Yes, I’m worried.
Since we all seem to be so “hurried” and “worried” I suggest that we engage in simple, “get to the point, don’t waste God’s or our precious time prayers.”
Remember that our prayers are not for God’s entertainment or to increase God’s knowledge of the situation. We are not out to change God’s mind.
Our prayer is for us, working to change our attitudes to move us into alignment with God’s will.
Here are 3 short one -word prayers you can say anytime or anywhere conveying following powerful messages.
“Whatever” – Lord, what ever you want me to do, I accept. I say, “Yes”, Coach put me in”. Bring on the people you want me to love, the situations you want me to take on, and the lessons you want me to learn. We can take a page from the prayer book of Jesus on the cross, “Not my will, but thine be done.” Whatever!
“Whenever” – Lord, whenever you choose to answer my prayers, I accept your time schedule. I know that all prayers are answered, in your own good “God time”, giving us what we need when we need it. I will relax knowing that you have the control of the clock. “Whenever!”
“Forever” – Lord I am forever grateful for the many blessings that surround me every day. The music I hear, the water that I drink, the sunlight that fills my days, and the friends who surround me with love. I will live each minute in gratitude. “Forever”!
Whatever, Whenever, and Forever – prayers for the Hurried and Worried!
