When talking with the doctor about my next visit, he instructed, “If you have to wait more than 15 minutes, you have my permission to leave!” Have you ever in your lifetime heard that? What a pleasant surprise!  I sat in amazement at this unexpected statement.

As I reflected on the doctor’s words, my heart lightened realizing that I was a priority. A smile crept across my face knowing that my time, energy and schedule took on some importance.

* This same feeling of jubilation must be shared by those experiencing random acts of kindness like pulling through the drive up window for your latte and giving the barista an extra $5.00 for the car behind you.

* At the check out line at the grocery store my dad would see a construction or migrant worker getting his lunch, sandwich, chips and drink. Without hesitation, my father would put it on his charge.

Yes, we feel a sense of wonder, a feeling of connection, and a sense of awe at being caught off guard, when someone’s thoughtfulness “makes your day!”

*Let’s remember that this is the Season of wonder, miracles, and reaching out.

*Let’s spread the “awe” of these holidays by making others feel special. Prompt yourself with the question, “how can I serve?” Look for ways to relate, respect, and revere each other.

To go “above and beyond” the ordinary doesn’t take much. Keep your money in your pockets, a mere smile and “hi” goes a long way these days. Walk through the mall and make a point to look people in their eyes, smile, and say “hi’. You will see the joy in their faces and feel a union with our oneness.

Yes, this is the Season to feel the awe in the air, make miracles happen for others, and spread the joy on earth.

Go ahead: Make someone’s day! Make it a JOY TO THE WORLD kind of day!
