We all try to be the best at what we do, to give 100% or more (if that”s possible.) We strive to be the best parent, grandparent, friend, neighbor, doctor, or entrepreneur. We feel guilty if we miss the high standards that we or others have set. Terms like, “the perfect family”, “the man of my dreams”, “man of the year”, or the “best of the best” often are motivators for improvement. There’s a country western song called “Close Enough to Perfect For Me”. This catchy tune could be our theme song while traveling on this Earth in the school called life. While in reality we are all perfect creations…. right here, right now. Really!! But somehow for some reason, the way we are isn’t good enough. We all still strive to be better and still expect more of ourselves and others. So when we or someone around us “messes up” or fails in to meet the set standards, give them a “free pass” and invoke the thinking of Secret # 5: “Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.” Chalk it up as a learning opportunity. Just don’t miss the “reflective learning” part that leads to growth and guilt free happiness.
