Tooling down the road in a hurry to get my errands checked off my “to do list”, I listened to the news channel in my car. Fighting off the dark mood that began to creep in as I absorbed the “world mess”, the regular newscast was interrupted bringing an announcement.
The commercial informed us that the station dedicated to playing only Christmas carols would start the following week on Nov. 2nd! Being only in the latter of October, I hadn’t even gotten my Halloween decorations out yet. Too early for Christmas carols?
As I sat stupefied inwardly screaming “too early”, a beautiful soothing Christmas carol filled my ears, bringing my blood pressure down immediately coupled with a peaceful, easy feeling running through me.
Regardless of religion, I think we could all use a little “Peace On Earth”. Now I’m thinking, maybe it’s not too early for this music.
Where do we find this “peace on earth”?
We all know that this peace and the best are yet to come. But what about here and now? We sometimes get so caught up with earthly pressures and concerns, feeling tugged into a downward spiral helpless and out of control.
We’ve all heard the saying, “Let go, let God”. We need to reflect on these words and release all the clutter, the to-dos, and stresses that pull us away from the one thing that is important and that is fulfilling the agenda of our souls.
We may need to let go of certain beliefs that this is the way it SHOULD be. Let go of the unreal expectations you have for yourself and the world at large. Let go of people who do not support or nourish you, and let go of anything that does not make you happy.
We need to enjoy each precious moment knowing that God has our “backside” and everything will get done in good time, in God’s time.
So let the Christmas spirit and music begin. …all is calm, all is bright. And let there be peace on earth!
Sing, rejoice, and enjoy the “present”.
