Do you look at the past as a long lost friend, yearning for the “good old days”?

Do you pine for the days past when you physically, mentally, emotionally were at the “top of your game”, in your mind?

Physically you could run miles before tiring. Mentally you could remember exactly “why” you came into that room. Emotionally you were strong with self-confidence planning for a bright future.

In a restaurant recently sneaking a glimpse of the man next to us ordering lobster bisque, a fillet, baked potato (loaded!) paired with 2 glasses of fine wine, I yearned for the “good old days”.

I eyed his savory meal with eyes of envy. I used to be able to eat like that, probably even throwing down a White Russia after the dinner.

As these gluttonous thoughts crossed my mind, the actuality of it all hit me with a slap of reality: I cannot eat like that any more. All of those tasty morsels would challenge my digestive track keeping me up all night. The old body isn’t what it used to be.

Remembering a joke I had heard years ago made me put it all in perspective.

“When you’re young, you want to be old. When you’re old you want to be young.

When you’re single you want to be married, and when you’re married you want to be dead!”

I’m not saying that it’s a good joke, but it points out one fact: that oftentimes we look outside our present moment, present stage of life, or present time we live in for happiness.

Either the “good old days” bring comfort and safety, or the “future days” bring promise and hope.

We all need to be happy, enjoying each present moment, just where we are.

“Bloom where you are planted.”

And I might add: Enjoy it!

Let’s take a minute and make a list of all the “good things” about our stages and conditions in life, whatever they may be.

Please add your addition in the comment section making a list of all the “good things” that we may have overlooked.

I’ll start:

-I’m glad I’m this old because I now know what makes ME happy!

-I’m so happy that now I finally have accepted exactly what my hair will REALLY do.

Your turn…..

Enjoy your wonderful life, wherever your stage, age, or page you are on!
