Do you feel a knot in your stomach when a certain person walks into the room?
Do you feel light-heartedness when you recognize a special friend’s number on your caller ID?
You’re not alone. The people who come in and out of our day have far reaching effects promoting both positive and negative energy.
Some of these effects may be physical – Negative effects include: the tension headaches, fatigue, or sleeplessness. On the other hand, we see positive effects that could be a quickening of the heart, a laugh, or a smile on the face.
Some may be emotional – Negative effects may include: loss of confidence, irritability, or depression. Positive effects could be bliss, playfulness, or comfort.
Some may be mental – Negative effects: worrying, pessimism, or indecision. Positive signs: optimism, freedom, or increased awareness.
Some might be behavioral – Our positive behavior might notice a calmness, peacefulness or contentment. A loss of appetite, drinking more, or insomnia would be tallied up on the negative side.
Do any of these resonate with you?
Since we are made up of the 5 people that we spend 80% of our time with, it’s vital that we monitor the incoming energy – both positive and negative.
What can we do to know the effects that people are having on us?
I advocate EMS (Energy Monitoring System), Take a sheet of paper and fold it in half. On left side list 10 of the most toxic people you deal with. List those who call out the negative emotional, physical, mental, and behavioral symptoms listed. Next to each person’s name write the effects that this person evokes upon you.
Now do the same for the 10 happiest people in your life. Next to these names identify how each one supports, nourishes or enhances your joy.
After reviewing the results, you will see in black and white, the call to action detailing whom you need more of, bringing in joy, and what boundaries need to be set to reduce negativity.
Guard your energy. The life you save may be your own!
