Our lives are determined by our choices. Sometimes our present situation looks like “chance”, but we really are making the choices converging into our life.
Happiness is one of those choices. Rick Warren preaches that you’re as happy as you choose to be. One of the secrets that I learned on my journey is that “Happiness is not a gift, but a skill.”(A Change of Habit)
But if this is indeed the case, that we are responsible and powerful enough to make ourselves happy why don’t more people choose happiness in their own lives?
Sounds funny but sometimes happiness is a difficult choice.
The most difficult choices include being honest with ourselves and others, exposing facts and fears, forcing us to making difficult decisions.
Oftentimes we are not prepared mentally, emotionally and psychologically for the impact of such a decision. So we stay in our “comfort zones” of discontent and unhappiness.
Often times we live in a daze, not actually realizing that we are unhappy…. just performing, pretending, and procrastinating.
How do we begin to build this ability to be happy?
It all begins with honesty. We need to let down our defenses and listen to the quietness of our souls becoming aware of our true source of happiness, looking at what situations and people work for us and which ones do not.
We need to walk away from chaotic situations and people who create negativity.
We need to surround ourselves with people who make us laugh.
Forget about the bad things happening and celebrate the good things taking place.
Love people who treat you right, pray for those that don’t.
Life is way too short to be anything other than your happiest.
Here’s to YOUR HAPPINESS!
