‘Tis the season for Gratitude. Gratitude changes everything. Gratitude is a powerful tool, turning any ordinary Thursday into Thanksgiving.
I heard it before I saw it. The weathered car, chugging with the engine that sounded like it was missing on a few cylinders, slowed down to a stop in front of the stately home adorned with well manicured lawns and sophisticated gardens.
A scraggy man, apparently a day laborer, exited the car to report for his day job. As the lady driver circled around me leaving the premises, her license plate taught me an important lesson:
“LKELDY” – LUCKY LADY
This “lucky lady” had the key to changing everything, gratitude.
We wait all week for Friday. We wait all year for summer. We wait a lifetime for happiness. All the time we have the key to happiness in our hands.
Gratitude is the key unlocking the door to happiness. The early Pilgrims knew this and we’re reminded of this vital lesson every Thanksgiving.
Be grateful for your blessings, no matter what they are.
Instead of feeling a sense of loss and need, concentrate on what you DO have and there will be no room in your mind or your heart for what you THINK you are missing. LKELDY/LKEGENT.
Instead of waking up complaining about the aches and pains brought about during the night, be thankful for the body parts that DO work. LKELDY/LKEGENT.
Instead of living in state of constant yearning for something bigger or better, relish your present circumstances. Bloom where you are planted with a grateful heart. As my wise mom, Ginny, always expounded, “things could be worse”! LKELDY/LKYGENT.
Challenge for the week: Be mindful of your thoughts and words, monitoring your presence as “one of want” or “one of gratefulness”. See if you are driving a life screaming “LKYLDY”…
Make every day a thanksgiving holiday.
Don’t miss next week’s post with Sister Mary Vodka’s special Thanksgiving Pumpkin martini...before or after dinner, works for both…yummy! You will indeed by grateful!!!
