Miracles happen all around us, if we pay attention to them or not.
As a teacher in San Diego I have taken numerous classes on whale watching field trips, so when Joe and I were planning our itinerary on our Hawaii vacation, the whale watching adventure did not appear at the top of my list.
But “when in Rome, do as the Romans” so caught up in island fever I found myself on a sunset whale watching excursion on the “Queen’s Treasure” catamaran.
Once again I was surprised how life teaches me in the everyday, even when I had “been there and done that.”
Running along side this pod of whales as they made their way after the female, I marveled at their immensity and graceful swimming, in spite of their poundage and cumbrance.
Awe swept over me as we chased the giants of the sea and “oohed and aahed” as three whales performed a synchronized swimming act flipping their tales in rotation like a rehearsed peeling off routine.
God’ amazing creatures entertained the boatload of onlookers as we tried to capture their natural beauty with our cameras. Words can’t explain, nor pictures relate the feelings of being a miniscule part of this grand and glorious creation.
One could not help but enjoy a sense of awe….
As we age, gravity takes its toll on our bodies, and sometimes this power takes over our spirits too. We must work every day to boost our positive attitude.
We need to develop this sense of awe – this sense of expectation, this sense of anticipation. We often miss these everyday miracles looking for something bigger, or something out of the ordinary.
God’s grace, beauty, and answered prayers are in the everyday, our ordinary. We need to keep our eyes pealed, our hearts open, and our minds, clear.
But how?
1. Create a sense of wonder, like a child exploring the “sandbox” of this wonderful world.
2. Keep a journal of how the ordinary turned into the extraordinary.
3. Look for the “silver lining” in each and every situation, no matter how mundane.
Miracles are happening, don’t write it off as “just another day”!
